Cosmetic Gum Regeneration
Gum recession can occur from varied causes – excessive tooth brushing force, orthodontics, trauma, excessive bite force, or placement of restorations at or beneath the gum tissue. Regardless of the cause, recession can be treated by regeneration and/or augmentation of the lost tissue, preventing further recession and bone loss.
In the past, gum tissue would be transplanted from the palate to the area of recession, requiring another surgical site, often with unesthetic results.
Our practice uses a new technique for treating gum recession, which does not require taking tissue from the palate.
Our practice performs regeneration and augmentation of lost gum tissue (gum recession) without taking grafts from the palate. We use state of the art procedures utilizing Alloderm, an acellular dermal matrix used in burn and wound repair, which acts as a scaffolding for replacement by the patient’s own gum tissue. The results are far superior to conventional palatal grafts, having the same color and appearance as the patient’s gum tissue. These are some representative cases of what can be accomplished with this technique in our practice.
